| The General Counsel is the chief legal
adviser to the System President and LSU Board of Supervisors. Duties include
the review of all System legal contracts and legal matters. In addition, the
General Counsel, in the role of Board adviser, prepares reports and renders
advice and counsel on matters pending before the board, including changes in
Board By-Laws, proposed projects at System campuses and hospitals, and
pending or active litigation involving the University.
LSU also employs outside counsel to handle particular legal matters. PM-72 provides the process for LSU employees to request legal assistance from outside counsel. The Office of General Counsel has issued Guidelines to be followed by all outside counsel representing LSU.
